2011 Minneapolis and St. Paul Home Tour – April 30 & May 1

The free, self-guided tour Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, 1-5 p.m., gives homeowners inspiration and ideas on how to improve their homes. Thirty-eight Minneapolis homes and 15 in St. Paul will showcase a variety, from new kitchens, baths, and suites to whole-house makeovers, and everything from energy efficiency to additions that blend with the neighborhood. Even some rental properties and historic homes.

On the tour, visitors talk directly with homeowners; and in many cases, their contractors, architects, and other trades people are available. According to a 2010 survey, 39 percent of visitors are checking out neighborhoods and 5 percent are looking to buy. This is an opportunity to show off our neighborhoods. Anyone from [name of your neighborhood] considering putting your home on the tour in a future year would be wise to check out the tour and see how much fun it can be.

To plan your tour, visit www.MSPHomeTour.com or pick up a copy of the Home Tour Guide with maps and descriptions of all the homes at local libraries. You can also follow on Facebook and Twitter.

Tangletown Annual Garage Sales May 6th-7th

The Tangletown Neighborhood Association invites all Tangletown residents to be a part of our neighborhood-wide annual GARAGE SALE Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 from 8:00-4:00 each day. Gather up all your superfluous household stuff and be part of the ultimate recycling party!

Complete the registration form you can download here, which you will also find on the back of the Tangletown Spring 2011 newsletter and get it to us by April 30th. PLEASE include an email address; it makes it much easier to confirm registrations and addresses, communicate any changes, alerts, sign information, etc.

This annual event has become a drawing card for treasure hunters from all over the Twin Cities, and you can benefit as both a buyer and a seller! Experience has shown us that even Mother Nature can’t dampen this two-day house-to-house shopping romp!

You can sign up to sell on Friday, Saturday or both days. If you don’t think you have enough stuff to host your own sale, talk to your neighbors and combine your goodies in one location.

The TNA Annual sale will get advertised in the Star Tribune, the Southwest Journal, on Craigslist, and on signs throughout the area. Participants get official TNA Garage Sale signs to post in front of their sales to make it easier for buyers to find them. Maps showing the location of all the participating sales will be available at Fuller Park, at each garage sale location, and online.

Steve Bieringer, who heads the committee for this event, had this to say about last year’s sale; “I think all in all sales were good even though the weather didn’t cooperate.”

He also suggests that all sellers be watchful of petty thieves looking to grab valuable items not under the seller’s watch and walk off undetected. Guard your cash box to avoid any problems, or wear a fanny pack or carpenters apron for your money.

And be sure to have fun!

Friends of Washburn Library Book Sale – June 3, 4, 5
