40th ANNIVERSARY OF WASHBURN LIBRARY

Join the anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 2, 2010, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Washburn Library, 5244 Lyndale Ave. So. There will be events for adults and children, refreshments, and special guests. Hosted by the Friends of the Washburn Library and the Hennepin County Library Foundation, the event is free and open to the public.

Washburn Library opened its doors on September 7, 1970, quickly becoming one of the busiest libraries in the Minneapolis Library system. In 1992 a major expansion was necessary to meet the demands of the southwest community. With the merger of Minneapolis libraries and the Hennepin County Library system, Washburn is bustling more then ever.

The “Friends of the Washburn Library,” as a newly formed organization, is committed to the needs of the library through volunteerism, fund raising, and program support. The anniversary celebration is its first event. The second, a book sale, is scheduled for December 4.
